ali stroker did a wonderful job too as elphie, her beautiful voice omg. their chemistry and blending in this performance were top tier
ps. the fact that gavin was boq in the original workshop cast makes it more sad

I just listened to the latest episode of and that's what you really missed on Glee. It was such an interesting episode. Ali is a great guest.
Ali: I always thought after I did an episode of Glee, I'm set. The doors will fly open and everything will be so easy. And then nothing happened. I always looked like Glee was the magic wand. This thing was gonna change my career and it did in so many ways. But I also feel those changes came slowly. (Her role was tiny and she had just one line in a song. It might have been different, if she had been in more episodes and had a whole song or at least a duet.)
Ali went to UDK (don't know if I got that right) for a general audition. She met Robert and he liked her. They taped her singing to show it to Ryan, but then nothing happened until three years later the Glee Project happened. She auditioned, didn't hear anything and accepted an offer to do theater. Of course then she got the call for the Glee Project, but she could do it. She got called again for the second season of the Glee Project. She didn't win, but was promised a spot on the show.
Ali on doing Glee: Getting to see what really took to make that show, it set the tone for me. Like my dreams and my goals that's not an instant thing that happens. It's years and years and years of hard work and then once you arrive there, you have to give a hundred percent of you. And that is kind of what started my journey to really finding the thing that I was very excited about working on.
What is the feeling that Glee leaves you with? Ali: I think Glee changed the world. To be a part of that feels really special. I was a fan of the show before I was on the show. And it changed me. It changed my life. The storylines and the representation changed my life. So the feeling is that Glee had this unbelievable impact on me. And it makes me smile because musical theater is my favorite genre and to get to watch that on tv with people that I identified with, it shook my world and it changed everything. And it really really catapulted my career in so many ways. But also emotional too. That so many things happened for me around the show. Whether it was the Glee Project, different kind of relationships, meeting and getting to know you guys and then having many of you as friends. It was such a highlight of my life and my career.

Broadway Actors and the Shakespeare Characters I Want To See Them Play
Amber Gray and Patrick Page as Lord and Lady Macbeth
Instead of being a toxic couple who start to get better, I want to see them get worse.
Megan Hilty and Christian Borle as Beatrice and Benedick
The banter would be unmatched
Aura MacDonald as Queen Titania
I don’t have an explanation for this, it’s just correct.
Renee Rapp and Andrea Macasaet as Romeo and Juliet
I do it for the girls and the gays, that’s it.
Patti Lupone as King Lear
I am starting a new club dedicated to casting Patti Lupone in every iconic Shakespeare male lead and I think this is a good place to start.
Joshua Henry as Aaron from Titus Andromedus
I want to hear him say the “villain I have done thy mother” line so bad
Stephanie J Block as the Nurse from Romeo and Juliet.
This one is just vibes
Ali Stroker as Mercutio
It’s been a while since I read Romeo and Juliet but I think I remember enough about it to know that disabled Mercutio would slay
Aaron Tviet as Tybalt

I just want to note a wonderful thing about this production (which I was lucky enough to see in person): a lot of the actors in it are disabled. How productions handle disability in Richard III varies greatly, from those that play it straight to those that ignore it to those that comment directly on it (if you ever get to see the modern adaptation Teenage Dick, I highly recommend). This one went with casting outside of RIII alone and I'd love to get more people's thoughts on it. For me it was exciting to see fantastic actors in roles they aren't generally allowed access to. And it makes me excited for the future as the home of Shakespeare in the Park, Delacorte Theater, is currently under renovations that are in part explicitly to make the theater more accessible to both audience and actors.
Richard III starring Danai Gurira as the title character is now available to watch for free on the PBS website! Beware though, it will only be available a few weeks. Been wanting to watch forever and I'm so glad I finally can!

I know Ali was just in on Glee episode, but I count her as Glee cast.
I'm always happy when someone of the cast has a new work project, happy private news, wins awards. And I'm happy about little things like this too. Although I guess it wasn't that little for Ali.

My Year In Books
Stats from GoodReads Here’s what my year in books looked like. Follow me on GoodReads for details and reviews. You may note that at least three of the books feature disabled lead characters. Some of my favorites (not necessarily released in 2023) are: 10. Cut Loose! by Ali Stroker and Stacy Davidowitz (The sequel to The Chance to Fly) 9. What Kind of Motber by Clay McLeod Chapman 8.
